THE SITUATION
The answer was always somewhere. Never in one place.
The Group Treasurer runs three teams — Debt, Liquidity and FX. When a director asks “what is all our debt right now, Airtel consolidated?”, the question goes to the Debt team lead, who consolidates reports by hand. It took hours.
Every figure existed. Some lived in Excel, some in Murex, some came from Bloomberg and Crystal.
CORE CHALLENGE
Answer a director while they wait — and keep every figure traceable to its source.
THE USERS
A treasury, top to bottom.
01
Group Treasurer (GT)
Runs Debt, Liquidity and FX, and answers the directors.
02
Treasury Controller (TC)
Works under the GT, senior to the team leads, and owns compliance.
03
Debt, Liquidity and FX teams
Hold the numbers, and until now, consolidated them by hand.
PAIN POINTS
Everything scattered, everything by hand.
01
Scattered sources
Excel, Murex, Bloomberg, Crystal and more — no single place to look.
02
Hours per question
Every director's question went to a team lead, who built the answer by hand.
03
Compliance by hand
The Treasury Controller must be sure every compliance holds. Checking each one was very hard.
04
Spikes without reasons
When a number spiked, tracing why took a long time. Early detection was close to impossible.
THE PROBLEM
The data existed. The access didn't.
Nothing was missing; it was spread across files, systems and teams. Every question paid for that in hours, and every compliance check paid for it in risk.
DESIGN GOALS
Design goals
01
One place for every number
Debt, Liquidity and FX, consolidated, without losing the detail.
02
Answer while they wait
From a director's question to the figure in the same conversation.
03
Catch compliance early
See a spike when it happens, not after someone asks.
04
Trust every figure
Each number traceable to the Excel or Murex file behind it.

DECISIONS & TRADE-OFFS
Key decisions and trade-offs
01Backed by the source
Decision
Every figure is backed by its own Excel or Murex file, so any number in the app can be checked against the source it came from.
02Reports as a button
Decision
The annual L1 report and ad-hoc reports became actions — one click, or send to self — instead of a team lead's afternoon.
03Bottom sheets, not cards up top
Decision
Stakeholders asked for cards at the top of the screen and a popover for filters. I showed them mobile-first alternatives built around the thumb zone, and filters and deep dives moved into bottom sheets.
Trade-off
Rejected: cards up top and a popover. On a phone the top of the screen is the hardest place to reach; a bottom sheet opens where the thumb already is (Fitts's Law: a target that is close and large is quicker to hit).
OUTCOMES

REFLECTION
What it taught me
REFLECTION
In a treasury, speed only matters if the number is trusted. Every view had to trace back to the file behind it before a faster answer was worth anything.
